Self Care Sunday - Warmth
Fun Fact about me: I *LOVE* winter, it's actually my favorite time of the year. Seriously, give me all of the cold and snow. One day I'll move somewhere that gets snow all of the time...or at least that gets a lot during the winter. Here in St. Louis, we FINALLY got our first (real) snow of the winter a couple days ago. And since we don't get snow like this very often, I'll take the time to appreciate the few days that we do have: building snowmen, making snow ice cream, and just literally spending time outside. So this week for Self Care Sundays, it seemed like a good idea to keep it simple: Warmth.
Is it just me, or when it snows do you crave hot drinks? It seems pretty normal, wanting something that will warm you from the inside out during the days that are bitterly cold. I personally love hot tea, almost to the point of obsession. I kind of collect it (along with my collection of mugs). There are just so many types and flavors, I want to be able to try them all. I do have a favorite though, my go to and the one I can never get enough of: Hot Cinnamon Sunset by Harney & Sons. So if you're looking for something warm and soothing during these cold days, that's a pretty great choice.
When it snows though, hot chocolate is my go to. There's just something about the sweet, soothing, chocolatey warmth that helps to make the snowy days even better. Plus there is an endless number of ways to make it. I love adding marshmallows, whipped cream, chocolate curls, a drizzle or chocolate syrup, and either a peppermint or cinnamon stick. I think after I'm done writing this, I'm going to have to grab my favorite mug and make some...because it sounds like the perfect way to spend this cold Sunday.
And if you're wondering, I don't have some fancy elaborate recipe. I literally warm up some milk (or almond milk for a dairy substitute) and mix in some cocoa powder or Hershey's syrup. Voila! Hot Chocolate! It's all the extra toppings I love to experiment with, it makes it so much fun and turns a simple mug of hot chocolate into something that feels more gourmet.
Self Care doesn't always need to be something big and elaborate. It's just taking a few minutes to do *something* for yourself. So take 10 minutes today, make yourself a warm drink and take the time to really enjoy it. You deserve at least that much.
